I often find myself organising funerals and so say to people “Plan what you want in your funeral well in advance then put it in an envelope marked ‘for the vicar’ and put it somewhere safe.” Well Jean who was one of my parishioners from my Llantrisant days had done just that. So I took Teds along to meet Jeans children David and Helen to discuss the funeral arrangements for their mum.
It was sad having to be there as it meant Jean was no longer with us but also we laughed a lot too remembering all her ways and sayings and reflecting on a life well lived. Some people get really grumpy when they get older but not Jean – she was full of life in her Autumn years. An example to us all. Ask me how many hymns shes wants in her service!
And as she was a lady of faith I know that she has gone on before us and we will be reunited again. I am looking forward to that a lot.
