Hybrid both-and church

The boys came with me virtually to Pontypridd, though we were actually in the living room, to watch the induction of Rev Charlotte as the new vicar person.

I was explaining to the Teds that I have known Charlotte for years and remember the time I asked her to read in church and she started crying. Now look at how far she has come with God!

Teds collect the Centenary booklets

Technically the Teds came along with me as I collected the centenary booklets from the Diocesan Office as they are too young to drive. Can you imagine the pair of them behind the wheel!!

The centenary booklets are to be distributed to the churches in the deanery and are little reminders that many things may have changed in the last 100 years but God has not gone anywhere. He is still deeply invested in his Church in Wales.

If you cannot wait until they arrive then you can have a look at the online version here:

Teds listen in

I remember back in the year 2000 that this feeling that God wanted me to be a vicar was not going to go away and needed to be investigated. Work was quite quiet as we had fixed the Millennium Bug so I started to investigate by chatting to a few vicar friends I knew about what it was like to be a vicar.

Nothing has changed and today God is still calling people to be vicars (actually if you want to get technical he is calling people from all over to be all kinds of things) and so that means the need for us who have been around for a few years to have a natter over a cup of tea to those who are at the early stages of their investigation.

As such tonight the Teds met H who came for a natter about life the universe and everything. Some say that God is not real and the church is dying – I don’t think so and H, amongst others, is the proof.

Let us know if you fancy a chat and I’ll put the kettle on.

Teds see how the Diocese really works

How do you run the Church in Wales? Chop it into parts and call them Dioceses.

How do you run a Diocese? Chop it into parts and call them Deanery’s.

How do you run a Deanery? Chop it into parts and call them parishes.

After explaining that to the Teds the Llandaff Diocesan Standing Committee meeting made a bit more sense. It’s a gathering of a clergyperson and a real person from each Deanery along with some other really important people from the Diocese like the Bishop.

The Teds observed lots of interesting subjects like – How is the 2020 year going? How is the Five Year Vision going? How is the money situation? What shall we do about this area of parishes and what shall we do about that area of parishes? Are we doing what God wants?

It sounds dull I guess but when you are there it is interesting watching how the team keeps the good ship Llandaff afloat and on course.

Teds go to 2pray

This afternoon Teds’ joined the 2pray group. Every few weeks we gather together and have a cup of tea and a chat about whatever comes to mind. It is completely unstructured. Some people chat. Some people listen. Some people chat and listen.

Then after about an hour we have a little pray. Again some people pray out loud. Some people pray quietly. Some come and just enjoy the ambience. It’s amazing to share stories of what God is up to and share the answers to prayers prayed.

Teds’ were in a reflective mood this afternoon so did not say anything of note really. But then they did have a busy day at the 2020 launch service yesterday.

Keep an eye on the church diary for the next 2pray session :
